Ocean Choice’s Long Pond Development receives permit from the Town of Conception Bay South

After an extensive regulatory process with the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government, Ocean Choice is extremely pleased to receive the construction permit for its Long Pond Development from the Town of Conception Bay South. This permit marks the final authorization required for the development to move forward.

“It is a good day for the seafood sector in the province, the community of Conception Bay South, our 1,700 employees and our Company”, says Blaine Sullivan, President, Ocean Choice. “Since August of 2020, we have been engaging with area residents, business owners and the Town Council to listen to their concerns and address their questions. Our revised development plan released early June is a reflection of the feedback received. We are extremely pleased to receive the permit from the Town of Conception Bay South; and we look forward to investing in the Town and to being a long-term contributing member of the community.”

Ocean Choice’s development will see approximately 1.7 hectares of new land developed that will house a 90-metre long finger pier, a laydown and parking area as well as a cold storage building where the Company’s frozen-at-sea products will be stored until shipped to global markets. Ocean Choice expects construction will commence over the coming months.

The permit from the Town follows the development receiving authorization under the Canadian Navigable Waters Act from Navigable Waters, a division of Transport Canada. Navigable Waters is responsible for safe navigation of Canada’s waterways. The authorization from Transport Canada requires that Ocean Choice maintain a 30.1 metre wide and 1.2 metre deep marked channel to the east of the development.

“Safe access and navigation for those who currently use the area is a priority for Ocean Choice,” says Blaine. “This is something that has been a priority for us since the very beginning. We understand that the harbour is currently used by both commercial users as well as recreational boaters and this is something that we are committed to preserving,” adds Sullivan.
